How to make a Wi-Fi QR code for guests
Every phone made in the last few years can join a Wi-Fi network by scanning a QR code with its camera. A small card by the door or on a café table replaces the ritual of reading a 16-character password aloud. The code takes a minute to make and costs nothing.

Make the code
- Open the Wi-Fi QR code generator. The Wi-Fi fields are already selected.
- Type the network name exactly as your devices show it, including capital letters and spaces, then the password.
- Keep the security type on WPA unless your network is open. It covers WPA2 and WPA3 as well.
- Pick colors that keep strong contrast, add a logo if you like, and download. Use SVG for print and PNG for screens.
Print it so it scans every time
- Size: at least 3 cm wide for a table card, bigger for a wall. A code that is scanned from across a room needs to be as wide as the distance divided by ten.
- Contrast: dark modules on a light background. Light-on-dark codes fail on many older scanners.
- Quiet zone: leave a blank margin around the code; the generator adds one, so do not crop it away.
- Add a line of text such as Scan to join the Wi-Fi, and the network name, so people know what the code does.
Keep the network safe
Anyone who scans the code learns the password, so treat the printed card like the password itself. For a business, put guests on a separate guest network, which most routers offer, so visitors never touch your own devices.
When you change the password, generate a new code and replace every printed copy. The old code keeps working with the old password only.
The code is generated in your browser and nothing is sent to a server, so making it does not expose your network to anyone.
